Keep it in the Ground
Keep it in the Ground
This collection of four lino printed postcards takes phrases from the poem “Keep it in the Ground” by Carol Ann Duffy. Focusing on the plastic and oil pollution in waterways, all the postcards are designed with the ocean in mind. Most of the typography featured on the front of the postcards was created through freehand drawing. Through this process I tried to consider how the words might be linked together through conflicting typefaces and how they can fit within each other.
To create the postcards, I used majority relief printing through lino cutting as well as mono printing using a plastic bag. I hand carved all of the front typography plus accompanying patterns and imagery out of lino pieces which were printed onto recycled card. Aligned with the theme of the postcards I used a piece of plastic bag which I rolled with ink and crumpled on the postcard to create a harsh plastic like texture.
